Description

Inspired by Shakespeare’s idea in “All the world’s a stage”—where he describes the seven stages of a person's life—I began to explore this concept in relation to my own journey. Over time, I encountered other variations: Aristotle proposed four stages; others suggest three. These perspectives vary, shaped by different experiences and viewpoints. In my work, I illustrate my own “stages of life. I have depicted six stages, each represented by a distinct shape symbolizing important phases in my life, from birth until now. My hometown and the surrounding environment have profoundly influenced me, so I have incorporated materials like paddy fields, football grounds, and elements from my environment that, like me, have undergone transformations to reach their current form. These natural echoes reinforce the concept in my work

I dyed wool and cotton threads with chemical dyes (at that time, I didn't have that much experience with natural dye) and wove them around wire structures. With no predetermined structural shape, the shapes emerged spontaneously, reflecting my life stages as they unfolded without a set plan, even before this work, i dont have any layout planning; I just let it naturally. Even the number of structures was left open, allowing the piece to authentically represent my experiences. The Smallest Sphere: This sphere represents my infancy. To me, white conveys purity and innocence, qualities often associated with a newborn. The Brown Sphere: This stage reflects my primary and secondary school years, marked by my connection to the playground, soil, and surroundings—hence the earthy brown tone. The Green and Blue Shape: Green symbolizes the time I truly connected with the paddy field. I participated in rice cultivation with my family, and the green here resonates with the lushness of the paddy fields.

The Final Structures: These gradually transition to blue, a color associated with two people I once loved, whose favorite color was blue. Every shade of blue brings back memories of these relationships and the emotions they carried. I have used various shades to represent the evolving feelings and complex layers of those bonds. There is no sense of finality in this work. I think of it as a retrospective, capturing the stages that have passed. This piece is my attempt to trace my journey so far and reflect on the phases that have shaped me.

(This work is not yet finished; in the future, I will continue to develop it based on my current experiences and situation.)
