Work vigilance is placed right at the entrance of a village that has stood in its ruined form for centuries. Long ago, this structure served as a watchtower to guard and protect the whole village. Culturally speaking, old watchtowers in original villages represented a space meant for strict observation and defense. But today, East Li Ancient Village shows how traditional Chinese culture seamlessly mixes with modern tourism. Instead of the old mindset of defensive guarding, the village now opens its arms to welcome outsiders—marking a big shift from "defense" to "welcome." This evolution brings in a whole new layer of cultural meaning. From a spatial point of view, the watchtower’s height and location make it the perfect spot for creating this iconic curved installation. By placing Vigilance right at the gateway, the artwork responds directly to this centuries-old historical site, honoring its past as a protective tower while embracing its present state.
