Description

The subject of my work centers on the essentials of daily life, inspired by the small but significant role of clothing labels. When we buy clothes, we often first look at the little tag attached to the fabric, seeking information before even examining the garment itself. This small label, containing key details, plays an unexpectedly large role in our decision to purchase. Sometimes, we even hesitate to buy a garment if it lacks a label, as the absence of information leaves us uncertain. Though small, this label holds great importance.

Process

This piece is crafted using tapestry weaving techniques, with wool as the primary material. Before beginning, I dyed all the wool and then started the weaving process, which took me around three months, working over 14 hours each day. I incorporated various weaving methods, including traditional Indian techniques. This work has an intriguing quality in that both sides can be viewed in the exhibition, revealing a handmade tapestry that carries depth from every angle.

One side of the piece features many small labels, each individually tied with a single knot, totaling 823 knots. The numbers on each label are hand-printed using rubber stamps, similar to block printing, emphasizing the details essential for understanding a garment: size, price, and material, all prominently displayed. Through this work, I highlight the value of a minor object that has a significant impact on our society.
