I was born and raised in West Bengal, India, and my work primarily revolves around fiber art, with a focus on installation-based projects. In the 21st century, the contemporary art world has become much more multifaceted, especially in how artists use their concepts and processes to convey their individuality through their works. Throughout my bachelor's, master's, and now, I have continued to explore these aspects.
Textiles are often associated with consumer needs and lifestyle, but my work deals with the fundamental aspects of textile art. I like the concept of the three-dimensional. For me, anything in the round is far more compelling than two-dimensional work, as it offers multiple perspectives. The combination of three-dimensional forms with dyeing and weaving challenges me and allows for greater freedom of expression.
I work with natural dyes, which are non-toxic, biodegradable, and produce vivid, long-lasting colors. Natural dyes are gentle on fabrics and environmentally safe, making the process not only eco-friendly but also creatively fulfilling. My research involves using these natural dyes by exposing fibers to the dye’s active components until the desired color is achieved. The result is unique, beautiful, and completely safe. Using natural dyes in my art practice is an environmentally conscious decision that encourages me to think more deeply about nature and a more sustainable way, and another thing is challenge. I believe that without challenges, any work becomes lifeless. Whenever I encounter a challenge, I see it as an opportunity for constant mental growth, engaging fully in the difficult process of individual development.
